Hourly median wage $17.58. 39-9032 Recreation Workers is the BLS occupation used for recreation coordinators, but neither the SOC title nor the BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook page (bls.gov/ooh/personal-care-and-service/recreation-workers.htm) names 'recreation coordinator' as a title. The OOH defines the job as follows: 'Recreation workers organize, conduct, and promote a variety of group activities for leisure and other purposes.' Treat this as a loose mapping. Figures read from the BLS OEWS Query System (data.bls.gov/oes), May 2025 estimates, Cross-Industry, Private, Federal, State, and Local (000000); the query result has no permalink, so source_url is the query system home. The occupation pages bls.gov/oes/current/oesXXXXXX.htm redirected to the OEWS tables index (bls.gov/oes/tables.htm) when loaded. BLS footnotes: estimates do not include self-employed workers; annual wages are hourly wages x 2,080 hours, except where hourly wages are not published.

What affects pay
Employment model
Employed trainers earn a wage; many others are contractors or rent space and keep session fees. Official surveys mostly count employees, so self-employed earnings are not in these figures.
Client base
Specialist work (post-rehab, seniors, pre/postnatal, sport performance) and a full book of returning clients lift income more than headline hourly rates suggest.
Location
City gyms and studios charge more per session and usually pay more, but rents and costs are higher too.
